BEAUTY INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS

2021 Time For Learning about How often you need to exfoliate your skin – Out with the old; in with the new: It’s the perfect January skincare mantra. Suppose extreme weather or too much holiday fun has left your complexion dull and dry. In that case, one of the quickest and most productive ways to make a change is to exfoliate — that is, to eliminate those old skin cells and revealing the newer glowing skin underneath.

Exfoliating is really great to assist your skin with cell turnover.

Cell turn over is your natural shedding of dead cells. This process begins to slow down as we age. If these cells accumulate on your skin, your skin starts feeling rough and not looking the way it should. Guess what helps to get a glowing complexion – exfoliation. This aide removes some of that debris, so the skin is softer and reflects light more evenly.

When I Started Rodan Fields As A Consultant, I Wanted To Find These Solutions

  • How often to exfoliate my face, and what ingredients should I look for when I shop for an exfoliant?

You hear about all the benefits derived from exfoliating, but finding the right way to integrate exfoliation into your skincare routine can be a bit of a mystery.

When I was 20, I tried almost every exfoliator on the market, and sometimes I ask myself the same questions that I did back then. To set the record straight for all of you. As my prayers were like mayflies in June, and I found these solutions.

Tell Me What Are The Benefits Of Exfoliating My Face?

Let’s start with the elephant in the room. Why should you choose to exfoliate your skin?

There are a plethora of advantages of daily exfoliation of all skin types. Exfoliation should be the main priority of your routine for those susceptible to blemishes and clogged pores.

There are a few different forms of exfoliants (which I will get to below). Even for you with acne-prone skin and acne breakouts, I tend to use a chemical exfoliant formulated with beta hydroxy acid (try her BHA Clarifying Serum) that works “to minimise bacteria on the skin while exfoliating and cleaning clogged pores.”

Is Exfoliation Important As An Anti-aging Treatment?

For those of you who are curious about wrinkles, As a beauty industry expert, as you increase your exfoliation, you trick the skin into acting young again.

Retinoic acid and retinol are unique forms of exfoliants that function especially well in the deeper layers of the skin. With continued exfoliation, the skin will look younger and cleaner every day,” she says.

Plus, exfoliation literally gives the face an immediate glow for all skin types; both by clearing dead skin cells, you eliminate the dullness and allow your other anti-ageing products to penetrate the skin more effectively.

This is where you can start jumping for Joy!

What Are The Ways I Can Exfoliate My Skin?

My two different ways to accomplish this in 2021 A New Year’s Skin transformation: Using Mechanical exfoliators that polish away dead cells using granules, such as sugar or salt crystals.

Opting to use chemical exfoliators, including glycolic acid, lactic acid and salicylic acid, break the bond between old and newer cells below.

So, what kind of exfoliation process is better? The founders of Rodan + Fields, Dr Katie Rodan and Dr Kathy Fields, suggest both. “We are fans of both gentle chemical and mechanical exfoliation, the keyword being ‘gentle,’ they describe in their book Write Your Skin a Prescription for Change.

So How Often To Exfoliate With These Two Types Of Exfoliation?

In my experience as a beauty industry professional, the perfect combination of the two is needed to break the bonds between cells without irritating the skin and to sweep away dead cells, leaving the skin soft and smooth.”

The recommendation of the Dermatologists: “Don’t overdo it.” If you do not exfoliate regularly and want to start, or if you have only used one type of exfoliator and would like to add the chemical or mechanical product you are lacking, give your skin time to get used to it:

Start slowly, and don’t get over the scrub. If your skin looks red or you feel raw, take a break and give it a chance to heal. Treat your body and face differently.

My skin on my elbows, knees and heels react well to regular exfoliation, and my face prefers to be exfoliated every few days.

Therefore, try to resist the urge to use a body scrub on your face; exfoliating particles can be too aggressive. (If you are looking for a scrub formulated for both face and body, try our Micro-Dermabrasion Paste ENHANCEMENTS.) Moisturising after you exfoliate for the most desirable results.

So, In A Nutshell, How Often Should I Exfoliate My Face?

The response to our million-dollar question is universal across the board: you can exfoliate your face about two to three times a week. (Acid serum, two or three nights a week, plus a weekly mask or peel, is a perfect routine to shoot.) You may have learned it only once a week, but dermatologists agree it’s not enough for most skin types.

According to the beauty industry, we lose 50 million skin cells a day, and if they stay on the skin, they will appear dark and dry. Encouraging the extra layer of skin cells to get on their merry way two or three times a week is a trick to smooth, glowing skin.
